“Persistent Flooding Continues to Plague Karachi as Torrential Rainfall Persists”

The Green Line track in North Nazimabad was also submerged, city faces power outages

“Karachi Grapples with Annual Monsoon Woes: Severe Flooding, Power Outages, and Casualties Amid Heavy Rains”

Once again, Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city, is reeling from the impact of heavy rainfall, with multiple key arteries submerged in floodwater, causing widespread traffic congestion. This annual urban flooding crisis has become a grim reality for the city’s residents.

The city’s major roadways, including Shahrah-e-Faisal, Old City area, Drigh Road, NIPA flyover, Natha Khan, I.I. Chandragir Road, Sadar, and Burns Road, are underwater, hindering both vehicular and pedestrian movement. Several neighborhoods, such as New Karachi, Nagan Chowrangi, Golimar, and Garden, are grappling with rainwater entering houses, further exacerbating the plight of citizens.

In areas like Nazimabad, Liaquatabad, and New Karachi, where authorities failed to provide timely assistance, numerous vehicles and motorcycles remain submerged in rainwater, adding to the woes of distressed residents.

The Green Line track in North Nazimabad has also succumbed to the deluge, reflecting the widespread impact of the heavy rainfall. Saddar, II Chand Regar Road, Sindh Assembly, and Governor House are surrounded by rainwater, and various sections of Civil Hospital and Jinnah Hospital, including the gynecological ward, are inundated.

Suburban areas, including Malir, Gadap Town, Sohrab Goth, Gulshan Miamar, Jail Chowrangi, Mangho Pir, Orangi Town, and Federal-B Area, are grappling with extensive flooding. Additionally, the torrential rains have damaged numerous feeders and PMTs of K Electric, plunging several areas into darkness.

Meteorological reports indicate that Malir received the highest rainfall at 64 mm, followed by 52 mm in Quaidabad, 33.6 mm in North Karachi, 29.8 mm on University Road, and 23 mm in Nazimabad. The forecast for the day suggests intermittent rain, maintaining the precarious situation in the city.

Tragically, the annual downpour has led to casualties, with reports of a young man succumbing to electrocution in the Lines Area. Additionally, two individuals sustained injuries when a building’s roof collapsed near Guru Mandir, and another incident occurred when the wall of Pak China Park on Kashmir Road collapsed.

As rescue teams scramble to assist affected areas, Karachi faces yet another challenging episode in its battle with monsoon rains, raising concerns about the city’s preparedness and infrastructure resilience.
