Kashmir Solidarity Day being observed today

Islamabad: The nation is set to observe Kashmir Solidarity Day today (Monday) with a renewed dedication to endorse the just struggle of Kashmiris for their inherent right to self-determination, as outlined in the pertinent resolutions of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

Every year, the people and government of Pakistan, along with Azad Jammu and Kashmir, commemorate Solidarity Day not only to reaffirm their solidarity with the people of India-held Jammu and Kashmir but also to restate their unwavering commitment to liberate Kashmir from Indian subjugation.

Individuals from various spheres of life will stage demonstrations and create human chains across the country to invigorate the spirit of the Kashmiris, who have been persistently fighting for their freedom for decades.

In separate messages on the eve of Kashmir Solidarity Day, President Dr. Arif Alvi and caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar reiterated the nation’s steadfast support for the Kashmir cause and the people of India-held Jammu and Kashmir.

President Alvi emphasized that the right to self-determination is a fundamental principle of international law; however, the Kashmiri people have been unable to exercise this inherent right. He highlighted the highly militarized situation in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and the challenging environment faced by Kashmiris living in fear and intimidation.

President Alvi condemned the indiscriminate use of force by Indian occupation forces against civilians, with political activists and human rights defenders facing arbitrary detentions and property confiscations. He affirmed Pakistan’s commitment to providing unwavering moral, diplomatic, and political support to the Kashmiri people until they realize their right to self-determination, as outlined in the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

Prime Minister Kakar, in his message, denounced India’s illegal and unilateral actions of August 5, 2019, in held Kashmir as a blatant violation of international law, including the UN Charter, 4th Geneva Convention, and relevant UN Security Council resolutions. He criticized India’s ongoing efforts to solidify these illegal measures, aiming to alter the demographic structure and political landscape of IIOJK.

The prime minister asserted that Kashmir Solidarity Day is an occasion to pay homage to the sacrifices made by Kashmiri brothers and sisters over the past 76 years. He reiterated Pakistan’s stance that a lasting solution to the Kashmir dispute is only possible in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.

Pakistan, he affirmed, will persist in extending unstinted moral, diplomatic, and political support for this just cause. The Prime Minister’s Office Media Wing quoted him as saying this in a press release.
