ISLAMABAD: The metropolitan police have reached out for assistance, seeking 5,000 personnel from the police forces of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan, as well as the Frontier Constabulary, to address the manpower shortage for security responsibilities during the forthcoming elections.
According to police officials speaking to Dawn, the capital police have made a request for the deployment of 5,000 personnel from the police forces of AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan, as well as the Frontier Constabulary, citing a shortage of manpower. However, as of now, there has been no response from the concerned authorities of these three forces.
The capital police currently have a workforce exceeding 10,000 officials and officers, with plans to deploy 6,000 of them at polling stations and other election-related duties. The remaining personnel will continue their regular duties, which include securing the Red Zone, safeguarding installations, conducting patrols, manning checkpoints, and maintaining operations at police stations.
