Says party is at critical juncture; highlights urgent need for reform
Akbar S. Babar, one of the founding members of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has extended a significant proposal to the party’s founder chairman, Imran Khan, calling for collective action to revive and restructure the party.
During a press conference in Islamabad, he emphasized the critical state of the party and stressed the urgent need for reform.
Babar highlighted the importance of transparent intra-party elections and expressed disappointment in the leadership’s reluctance to participate in the process. He voiced concerns about the potential irreparable damage to PTI if essential reforms were not implemented promptly.
As a founding member of PTI, Babar proposed a collaborative effort, suggesting the appointment of representatives from both sides to lead the necessary changes.
In his offer to Imran Khan, Babar outlined a framework for cooperation, recommending the nomination of representatives and legal experts from both factions to formulate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the party. He underscored the significance of reconciliation and unity, deeming it the final opportunity to rescue PTI from further decline.
Babar also called for an inquiry by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) into the intra-party election process, shedding light on the consequences of flawed decisions and leadership deficiencies within PTI. Despite his critical stance, Babar clarified that his intentions were not adversarial but rooted in a sincere desire to witness PTI flourish.
Reflecting on PTI’s journey, he acknowledged its past successes while expressing regret over its deviation from its original principles. Babar concluded by reiterating his commitment to PTI’s ideals and expressing optimism for its resurgence through concerted efforts and principled leadership.
