PTI has scheduled a public gathering at Bagh-i-Jinnah in Karachi for February 4, marking its first significant political event in the city since the incidents on May 9.
The announcement was made by Khurrum Sher Zaman, the president of PTI’s Karachi chapter, who is now running as an independent candidate with the symbol ‘Drum (Dhol)’ after the party lost its iconic ‘Bat’ symbol.
Zaman emphasized that holding political gatherings before the general elections is their constitutional, legal, and democratic right. He urged the people of Karachi to come out in large numbers to demonstrate their support for Imran Khan and his candidates.
He mentioned that the PTI city chapter would approach the district administration and relevant authorities to secure permission for the rally, highlighting that other political parties routinely organize public meetings.
Stressing the constitutional, legal, and democratic right of PTI to hold rallies, he expressed optimism that, like other parties, PTI would be granted permission for such activities. He anticipated Bagh-i-Jinnah to be filled with a massive crowd, echoing their enthusiasm through spirited chants and slogans. He called upon the people of Karachi to attend with their families, demonstrating their love and commitment to the ideals of justice and democracy.
He issued a caution against resorting to ‘illegal’ and ‘unconstitutional’ measures to hinder PTI and its workers from exercising their democratic rights, asserting that such tactics would backfire. Recalling the November 2023 rally announcement, which was later withdrawn due to a police crackdown on PTI workers, he emphasized the significance of Karachi to PTI and declared Imran Khan as the heartbeat of its people, expressing confidence that, despite challenges, PTI would emerge as the largest single party in both Karachi and Pakistan in the upcoming election.
