ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar was briefed on Friday that the revenue of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) had surged to Rs850 billion as the count of mobile phone users reached the milestone of 192 million.
The PTA Chairman, retired Major General Hafeezur Rehman, shared this update with the prime minister while presenting the annual report for 2023 during their meeting.
“The prime minister was told that
the PTA’s revenue increased by 17 per cent to Rs850 billion comparing the last year while the access to cellular services in the country has reached 90 per cent,” said an official statement issued by the PM Office.
“The number of cellular phone consumers touched 192 million and high-speed broadband users reached 130 million during 2023,” the PTA chief was quoted as saying.
Conversely, the PTI asserted on Friday that its websites were “inaccessible” in Pakistan and demanded an explanation from the federal authorities, as reported by Dawn.com.
The PTI, stripped of its distinctive ‘bat’ symbol for the elections, presented its leaders as independent candidates with alternative electoral symbols. To address potential confusion among voters and facilitate access to election-related information, the party introduced an online portal on its website insaf.pk, along with a “backup site,” pticandidates.com.
Staff members from Dawn.com attempted to access the PTI’s websites on Friday but encountered difficulties via Wi-Fi or mobile data, except when using a VPN.
