Pakistan seals borders with Afghanistan, Iran for election day security

The closure will affect both commercial and personal travel across these borders for a single day

The Foreign Office declared on Tuesday that, in light of the upcoming general elections in the country, the borders with Afghanistan and Iran would be shut on February 8th. This action is taken to bolster security measures and ensure a seamless electoral procedure.

“For the complete security of Pakistan’s general elections, the border crossings with Afghanistan and Iran will be shut for both cargo and pedestrians on February 8th,” announced Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, the Foreign Office Spokesperson, through a social media post.

This closure will impact both commercial and personal travel across these borders for a single day. Nevertheless, regular activities are anticipated to resume on February 9th once the electoral process concludes.

This decision underscores the government’s dedication to upholding peace and stability throughout the electoral proceedings.

Furthermore, Baloch assured that normal border activities would resume promptly on February 9, following the conclusion of the general elections. The temporary closure aims to bolster security arrangements and prevent any potential disruptions along the borders during this critical period.
